Villa Drahnet-Zervudachi (La Villa del Pascia): In 1849, the Egyptian Pasha Drahnet-Zervudachi himself built a magnificent villa in Oggebbio and designed the adjoining park entirely in the Arabian style. The Pasha, a high-ranking official at the court of the Egyptian Viceroy Pasha Ismail, who, according to rumors, had become very wealthy through a fortunate inheritance, created an oasis of the Orient on Lake Maggiore, nestled between the green of the mountains and the blue of the water. The "Villa del Pascià" was synonymous with immense wealth for the common people, as it employed over 40 servants, gardeners, and stable hands, all dedicated to the well-being of the family and their numerous guests. One of them was the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi, a close friend of Pasha Drahnet, who was commissioned by Viceroy Ismail to write a lyrical work for the newly opened opera house in Cairo. Thus, inspired by the magnificent Arabian ambience on Lake Maggiore, the masterpiece “Aida” was created, which premiered in the Egyptian capital in 1871 with triumphant success and embarked on a triumphant journey around the world.
